Strap Up– I mean, In

Hello from SapphicSavvy!

Happy belated Mother’s Day to any of our users who celebrated! We hope you felt the love and got some quality time with your friends and families. Speaking of families, we asked a hard hitting question this week that is first up on our list to talk about, so let’s get started.

MAGA Family

About 70% of our users had at least one family member who voted for Tr*mp in 2024. It doesn’t define us. It’s common and it’s unfortunate that there are so many of his supporters that are against sapphics and our community in general, but this doesn’t need to reflect on our perceptions of ourselves. Do what you can to stay safe and healthy and know that there are resources to support you if you need it.

In case you were not already aware, SapphicSavvy is pretty against DT, and frankly there are not many clever things I care to say about him. Why waste it?

In terms of having family who are in support of the current president, it can sometimes feel dissonant to condemn people who you love, or even just write off a large group of people as a lost cause when your own internal feelings are that people matter and deserve fairness, equity, and compassion. It’s okay to hold many complex feelings all at the same time. It’s not easy to do.

It’s also okay to be upset. There are an infinite amount of ways to navigate family relationships, and what works for you may or may not work for others. But whatever the situation, we hope you can find peace and happiness in the people you choose to be around you.

Reduce, Reuse, Recycle

Now onto everyone’s favorite topic. Recycling. It just feels so good to know you’re doing something for the environment right? It’s not that weird to want to reuse something that works perfectly fine, right? Right??

I fear not everyone was in agreement on this one lmaoooo

The millennials got it. Over half of users in their 30s said that they had used the same sex toys with multiple partners! All other user age groups reported nearly half that percentage, leaving us with an overall average of right around 33%. Now listen, before anyone comes for me, yes you should absolutely be taking precautions and cleaning your sex toys, but hear me out: that shit’s expensive. Y’all mean to tell me you’re getting a whole new strap every time you’re having a hookup? There’s no way, grow up.

Okay, I get that it can be fun to pick out a new toy with a new partner (and that this would subsequently reduce the overlap), but I think some of us need to start being honest with ourselves and with the SapphicSavvy community, idkkkk.

Queer users were also more likely to use sex toys with multiple partners! I think we’ve gotten a couple of guesses that could explain some of our results a few times, and I think there’s something to it: queer sapphics may be more likely to practice polyamory and therefore may have multiple concurrent partners to have fun and use sex toys with. And especially if those partners like the same things, then why fix something that isn’t broken, am I right? If you have any additional theories on this, let us know on our chat platform!

My Docs <3

Good old Doc Martens. What a shoe. I think it took me something like a year to break those bad boys in, but I’m glad I persisted. I have the ones that have more of a platform under them too, I feel large and in charge in them, it’s great. Now I don’t know about the rest of you, but I also remember these being really big in like the mid 2010s for the trendy, alternative, cool kids, so I do think these are more prevalent among younger people.

Our results seem to support this as well. Over 60% of users have a pair of black Doc Martens or similar boots! It’s a good shoe idk what to say! But maybe they only get worn sparingly these days bc we pretty heavily underestimated the prevalence of them with other sapphics. Y’all, I fear the stereotype is a little true, this is our time to come to terms with it. I am sapphic and I own a pair of black Doc Martens (repeat it back).

Queer users were more likely to own a pair of black Doc Martens or a similar boot. Real recognizes real. It goes with pretty much everything. It’s practical, durable, and dare I say fashionable. The shoe to end all shoes.

Anyways.

Mama Raised a Quitter (Positive!)

A couple of quarters ago we asked about how many users smoke/vape (you can check out those results here if you’re interested), and now the people wanna know who has made it out to the other side. 26% of our users formerly smoked/vaped but have since successfully quit! I applaud your strength and perseverance. That number is also slightly higher than what we saw for current smokers (which was around 23%), so serious congrats to you!

This was more common among older adults as well. I think this kinda makes sense, older adults have had more time to start and then stop smoking, and the reality of smoking can hit harder when you’re older too. Smoking also used to be more common (though younger adults have driven up the average in recent years due to the popularity of vapes), so a larger pool of smokers will mean a larger pool of quitters.

So now for some interesting cross-references! Queer users were right on with their perceptions and reality, and also had the highest average of successfully quitting smoking/vaping! What’s neat about this is that queer users also had the lowest rates of current smoking/vaping from a couple of weeks ago, and we love to see the effect of change on a widespread scale! I’m curious why this trend was so large for queer users specifically though, if anyone has theories please let us know (and share your tips for quitting for anyone who might be going through the process now)!

Well, that’s all I have for right now! Play this week’s round and chat with us if you’re so inclined, we love hearing from you :)

I’ll see you next week!

XOXO SapphicSavvy
