Set 5 - Quarter 3

Hellooooo From SapphicSavvy!

Happy belated summer solstice, we are officially in the peak of summer! The sun is shining, the vibes are high, and things are heating up at the SapphicSavvy villa. As always, we're here to pull you for a chat and unpack the latest in all things sapphic. So grab your iced coffee, settle in, and let's explore where today's conversation takes us.

Pride Parade Participation

Starting out with a very apt question this month: who’s been to a Pride parade/festival? Turns out, a pretty big majority! The overall average was about 84%, and we’re happy that so people have been able to attend Pride!

We did see a bit of an age effect, with older users having attended Pride more than younger users. Some potential reasons for this could be that younger users haven’t had as much opportunity yet, since older users have had more years and therefore more opportunities to attend Pride. Another could be dissatisfaction with the corporatization of Pride in more recent years that may lead younger users to seek out community events elsewhere. Yet another could be generational differences in engagement with LGBTQ+ history, where older users report higher rates of being informed about queer history (and might be more inclined to attend Pride as a celebration of that history). Whatever the reasons of why someone may or may not choose to attend Pride though are valid, and we hope that you’re able to celebrate your identity and your love in the way that is most affirming to you!

We saw pretty comparable rates of Pride attendance across identity groups, with queer users being very slightly higher than lesbian and bisexual users to report attending Pride. The differences here were not significant though, and all responses far exceeded average expectations!

Bathing Bombshells

Hot new bath bombs have entered the villa! The overall average of showers per week was 6. We also had over 16% of users report showering more than once per day, and we love to see the commitment to cleanliness! The most commonly reported answer was also 7 days per week, so applause for the good habits!

Users 40+ maybe have slightly better habits than the rest of us, but it’s good to have role models that can inspire us to be the best we can be!

Showering frequently is definitely good practice for personal hygiene, and we understand that there can be individual circumstances that make this difficult. If you’re struggling with mental health issues that may make daily tasks harder, there are resources that we encourage you to use to help you thrive. It can start with talking to friends or loved ones, as well as utilizing online resources to get any help you may need (check out some of the links at the bottom if you want a place to start).

Heartless Homophobes

We want to take a second before talking about these results to acknowledge that while bigots will be bigots, none of what they have to say or think reflects poorly onto you. I hope that everyone is staying safe and protecting your peace where you can.

The results on this question were unfortunately really high. About 87% of users reported hearing/seeing negative jokes, comments, or slurs made about LGBTQ+ this Pride month. This number was slightly higher among younger age groups, which may be attributable to online discourse where homophobia still runs rampant. For people who are online more, we may be exposed to these pockets of people more frequently.

Answers were slightly higher for queer and lesbian users as well. In this month when we take time to celebrate love in all of its forms, experiencing hate should be unthinkable. Look after yourselves and look after the people you love. And f*ck the homophobes.

Drinking in Sapphic Situations

Fun questions to ask your partner: would you go to a sapphic event without me? Why would you go to a sapphic event without me? You don’t want me there? Who is going to be at the sapphic event while I’m not there? Do you hate me? If I was a worm, would you still love me? Save this for later to rage bait your partner! (kidding, kind of)

Okay, the actual question we asked was the max number of drinks people would be cool with their partner having at a sapphic social event without them. The overall average was about 4 drinks, which is pretty high! The trust in your partners is very heartening to see! The average was a little lower for older age groups, but I feel like this makes sense: you’d be feeling pretty bad the next day after 3 drinks, and why would we wish for our partners to feel awful the next day?

The average for queer users was about 1 drink higher than other identity groups! We’re all about having fun and being trusting, and please also remember to know your limits! Drinking and partying is really only enjoyable to a point, after which it is so over for the night (and probably the next day too lol). Keep it fun and keep it classy.

That’s all I have for you today! Don’t forget to play the last round of Set 5 for your best to chance to win that $500 prize!

XOXO SapphicSavvy
