Set 6 - Quarter 4
The End of an Era

Hello from SapphicSavvy!
It’s the end of an era. Not only did we wrap up Set 6 this past week, but this week also marks the end of my tenure at SapphicSavvy! For anyone who is new to these posts, I’m the resident Gen Z correspondent over at SapphicSavvy HQ (and the writer behind these blogs). I have had a pleasure getting to bullshit my way through data every week while dragging you along with me, and I hope you’ve enjoyed the wild ride as well! SapphicSavvy will continue to go on writing blogs, but between you and me they won’t compare to yours truly 💅
So, without further ado, I present my magnum opus as the voice behind SapphicSavvy:
Cheated or Cheater
I fear this was a bit of a dark week when it comes to questions (what a note to leave off on). But starting with a big one: how many times have we been cheated on?
Luckily, the most commonly reported answer was 0! Happy for you, the chosen ones :))))
Unluckily, the average across all users was over 1. We live, we learn, and we love (maybe someone different who didn’t cheat on you though).

We had a small age effect for younger users in their late teens/20s, who had an overall lower average than older users. I feel like this one makes sense. I guess there’s plenty more time to catch up? It’d be cool if we didn’t though! Idk! There’s just so many other things that you could do besides cheating. Simply breaking up might be at the top of that list, followed by waiting a month or two. Maybe that’s crazy, but it could be revolutionary. Talk to your doctor to see if Breaking Up And Waiting 2 Months is right for you. Side effects may include increased maturity, heightened respect, neutral to amicable relationships with an ex, decreases in drama, and a lack of keyed cars. Do not take Breaking Up And Waiting 2 Months if you are allergic to empathy or plan on getting back together with an ex.
*Not available to all sapphic patients. Restrictions apply. See reddit.com/r/AITAH for full eligibility requirements.

Pretty similar rates across identity groups, no significant differences there! Cheating is apparently an equal opportunity offender. Lucky us. It’s worth noting that there’s research pointing to lesbians having the lowest infidelity rates across any group. Those ~8% of documented sapphic cheaters are wrecking havoc in our community. But we can defeat the cheating through the power of love and friendship. And maybe a couple months (or years) of therapy.
Camping Cuties
Breaking up the darker questions here. Camping and sapphicness are practically synonyms right? Turns out, very debatable. The average was a little under 0.75 camping trips taken in the past year. The most common answer was in fact 1, so maybe there’s something to this, but nearly just as many people said 0. I am in the latter of the two groups. The aesthetic of camping is kinda incredible, I won’t lie. Like waking up to see a stunning sunrise over a mountain range while you cuddle with your partner to keep warm, holding mugs of tea? That’s f*cking beautiful. But I fear that fails to account for the bug bites, wild animals, and frankly fear of other people being in spooky woods at night that accompanies the camping reality. I once found myself in the middle of nowhere in northern California while driving through the redwood forests at night. We hit a stretch of empty road where the tree line opened up and we stopped to get out and admire how astonishingly clear the sky was. I’m talking a 1 on the Bortle scale (literally the highest quality of clear night sky there is) during a new moon. I was mesmerized by the stars. Within seconds of turning off the car and headlights though, we heard rustling in the leaves that I swear to God kept getting closer and closer, and I freaked tf out. We had to cut the stargazing short after like a minute because I heard a twig snap close by. Was it likely some kind of rodent or perhaps a deer scampering around? Yeah, probably. But I was not about to risk being another missing person statistic in Humboldt county to find out.
Anyways.

Camping seems like it might be a younger sapphic person thing. I really applaud the bravery of my fellow sapphics. Y’all might have the most unique combo of strong survival skills and a questionable sense of self-preservation that I’ve ever seen. I love it. Get that van and travel across the country. Me and the 40+ year old sapphics will hold down the fort until you get back <3

Queer users were our resident campers this quarter, going on an average of over 1.5 camping trips this year! If y’all have good recs of sites that you like and feel safe at, please share with the community! I will likely not be going, but never say never I guess.
Post-Drunk Clarity
Back to another unfortunate question. We asked how many people had ever gotten into a sexual situation they regretted while drunk or high this past week. We hope that the situation was safe, but substances can definitely get us into some shenanigans with varying levels of repercussions. It seems like a little under half of us know something about that.

I think the age effect we’re seeing maybe mirrors the one above. Life is long and time is ripe with the potential for questionable decisions. We of course do hope that they don’t happen to you, and now that you know the answers from your peers at SapphicSavvy maybe they won’t! We’re building community knowledge and learning from each other. And that’s f*cking beautiful.

Some interesting trends across identity groups. I have a theory about why this might be, but if you have any alternative hypotheses please let us know! I think this might be somewhat due to the relative scarcity of sapphics in comparison to people of other genders/sexualities. Lesbians who look for other sapphics may not have as many opportunities to get into a sexual situation they regret while drunk or high as other sapphics who have a wider dating pool. As we’ve seen from past quarters, there’s also some minor variation in substance use across identity groups, which may also increase/decrease the likelihood of answering yes to this question among our various groups. Whatever the reason, we hope you continue to be safe and make healthy decisions for you!
What a ride it has been. Both this week and this year. It has been a pleasure getting to analyze these numbers and talk your ear off. We live, we laugh, and we love. And that’s f*cking beautiful. Take care of yourself and each other. Until next time.
